Little morning session working on the dragon. This time, trying a little bit different technique for the projection planes and mapping. Starting on the head, as the day 1 progress was shaping up nicely for the body, leaving the head a little less than desired. Started by grabbing some decent macro reference shots (would be nice to have some dead-on projections, but hey, take what you can get). The “new” part of the technique is borrowed from matte projection painting technique, but switching the camera projection to parallel mode, projecting on to the reference plane, and placing that rig under a null placeholder to keep it all “safe”. Box modeling from there and placing the new geometry under the null allowing the texture projection to show up on the geometry while modeling (key here is the parallel projection).
